Worst Case Scenario (2002) A TNT Original |
Okay, what is the worst-case scenario? There will be nothing good on the tube, no new releases at the theatre, and your date carried you, is a no show and your only option is to watch Worst-Case Scenario. Reality TV meets stupidity. While it proves to have an interesting concept, Worst- Case Scenario still doesn't cut the cheese. We're scraping the bottom of the barrel here. Produced by Columbia TriStar Domestic Television (Ripley's Believe It or Not!) and executive produced by Craig Piligian (Co-executive producer of three editions of Survivor, CIA Files), these weekly segments feature sample stories taken from the 1999 The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook written by Joshua Piven and David Borgenicht, as well as volunteer challenges, and face-offs between experts in outdoor survival tests.Worst-Case Scenario is hosted by Mike Rowe (The History Channel's The Most, PBS' NY Expeditions) who happened to be filming out of the Worst-Case Institute where worst-case tests are conducted. Worst-Case Scenario joins TBS Superstation's new two-hour "Unbelievable Wednesdays" programming block. This new series details the best possible solutions for those of us who happened to find ourselves caught in the worst possible situations ranging from jumping off a burning building to being lost in the wilderness. So, the question that comes to mind after the initial "Who would watch this, really?" is "Who would remember to do all those techniques if put in that same situation?" I know I couldn't. And the fact that Worst-Case Scenario uses professionals like stunt woman (and "Gear Girl") Danielle Burgio (Pearl Harbor, Matrix II & III) in well staged experiments annoys me because we all know that in real life we won't have the cameras, the paramedics, and helicopters ready and waiting to rescue us when our jump goes horribly wrong.
While Worst-Case Scenario might be a bit far fetched, it is deserving of a nod for the action. The show might even prove useful to those of us who can remember just how to tuck your shoulders while jumping from the roof of a building in your cat suit and platform boots. Worst-Case Scenario airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m.(ET)/8 p.m. (PT), beginning July 10. But, you know what I'd really like to know??? How to survive those pesky little paper cuts because they hurt like hell! Got a problem? Email us at filmmonthly@hotmail.com |
