I had heard about this TNT show called Witchblade for some time now, always wondering what it was about, never quite taking the time to sit down and watch it. So when one of the head honchos for filmmonthly.com asked who would be the brave soul to watch and review Witchblade. I raised my hand eagerly and said, "Me! Me! I'll do it!" Note to self, shut the hell up next time.

Sarah "Pez" Pezzini, played by Yancy Butler (Third Watch), is a hard-nosed New York homicide detective determined to clean up the mean streets. She comes across an ancient, powerful living weapon called the Witchblade. She soon finds out that there are darker forces aimed at mischief and that she needs the Witchblade to combat them. As Pez battles the bad guys and gals, she comes to realize that the Witchblade is not all that it's cracked up to be and just might be her most formidable foe. She is joined by her partner Jake McCartey (David Chokachi), Danny Woo (Will Yun Lee), her dead partner who comes back to give spirited advice), and Ian Nottingham (Eric Etebari) who is a slayer... uhhh am I wrong or is he on the wrong show?

But seriously, I didn't hate the show. I didn't understand it, but I definitely didn't hate it. Obviously Witchblade is a show you'll have to watch from the first episode if you want to keep up with what's going on. I began on episode ten, titled "Parabolic." You saw it; I saw it, so I feel free to briefly summarize the tenth installment.

Pez is up against Lupo (Eric Roberts) the head of an international hate clan. Lupo is accused of killing the parents of Bola, a young-looking girl who has undermined several of the group's assassination attempts. Bola has been trying to avenge the death of her parents for years and enlists the help of Pez and her homies after forming a "connection" with Pez and the Witchblade. A hit here, a kick there, a bullet deflected by the awesome power that is the Witchblade and Lupo is put out of his misery. Bola, now at peace with the death of Lupo, morphs into an extremely old woman and dies quietly in Pez's arms, much to my surprise.

Executive produced by Ralph Hemecker (X-Files) and Dan Halsted, Witchblade airs Monday nights on TNT at 9:00 p.m. Episode eleven, airing on Monday the 19th, will be about an underground fight club. Stay tuned and keep your hands down!
