 Well I really did not expect to watch the yearly musical fashion show, but it turned out that there wuz no trouble to find and shit I wuz broke as hell.
Well Chris Rock, the host, was funny as shit --he was cuttin' on every one - no one escaped his sharp (and fat) tongue. Okay down to bitness. There were four main people I wanted to talk about - mainly because he or she blew up in the past year or simply added another great year to the bank account and is just pilling the benjamins up !!! Well what can you say about Ricky Martin the man is perfect. Well you know I think the females would dig him; personally I think he's a bit. . .hmmm. . .ssssweet. Ricky's video for "Livin' La Vida
All in all the MTV awards show was cool. Lil' Kim's lack of a dress and Diana Ross curiosity about it was a bit freaky. Dr. Dre, Eminem and Snoop Dogg took the stage together. Aerosmith, Run D.M.C. and Kid Rock did "Walk This Way," and of course the lip sync performances by Britney Spears and 'NSync added some flava to the show. Moons up, all the way! Loca" won the Best Pop Video award, you know that little Neil Armstrong lookin' thing, and was a personal favorite of mine. C'mon tell me that all those short skirts and nice shapes did not have your mind wantin' to go to Mexico or hell Tiawanna and just get freaky on da' dance floor ? All right back to reality. Ricky also won the Best Dance Video for the above song-- see I told you everyone wanna be Ricky!
Now Lauryn Hill is another person who has just kept on gettin' bigger and bigger. Since the Fugee days Lauryn has been risin' to the top and is still keepin' it real. Now this is a sister with a body and a mind that could rule the world. Well mine anyway ! Ms. Hill won 4 moonies ----hey I thought those were the people who sold flowers in airports---for the following categories--Best R and B Video, Best Art Direction, Best Female Video and the much coveted Video of the Year. Now all of those awards for one song "Doo Wop (That Thing)" - shit now it's going to be stuck in my head all day. Lauryn looked beautiful as ever , but I did not quite dig the shades. Her performance was cool and very tight as always and the crowd really seemed into it.
No awards show can go with out some star lettin' everyone know about some cause they are about. Generally the causes are either non-threatening to me or about something i do not understand, but this year Ad-Rock of The Beastie Boys addressed the sexual assaults at Woodstock '99. He called for musicians and promoters to get together and make the venues safer for the women who attend these events. The Beasties pick up a moonie for Best Hip Hop video for the song "Intergallactic" of the album with the same name.
Last but not least --- Madonna. This woman has been through more fashion changes than Elton John and David Bowie put together. This was demonstrated before she came out by a bunch of guys dressed in different outfits spanning Madonna's career. Madonna was there to present the Video of the Year Award as well as pick up the award For Best Video From Film for the latest Austin Powers movie. Madonna got all emotional introducing her co-presenter Paul McCartney. Personally I thought James Brown was about to step out.
