Not to sound conservative, but I'm a bit upset with the protesting of the war in Iraq - or as FOX, CNN, or MSNBC call it, "Showdown In Iraq." It's interesting how now the media seems to give military skirmishes and wars movie like titles. I'm waiting for them to go overboard and finally run trailers for the war with the voice over going, "From the people who brought you the Gulf War I, and The Cuban Missile Crisis, comes a new war so shocking that you can't miss it...If you see only one war this year, make it, 'Showdown in Iraq!'"

Anyway, I don't appreciate the protesters who seem to come out of the wood work, not really knowing all that much about the war, but cursing America and President Bush for being 'warmongers.' I don't object to protesting, generally, but I think if one is to go about it there are better ways than to chant cheerleader like songs against it hoping for a TV camera to catch a glimpse of it for the eleven o'clock news. And the funny thing, I thought, was that at one of the peace/antiwar protests there was violence and a fight of some sort - wrap your mind around that oxymoron.

But seriously, people who strongly object to the war should take action by writing to their Congressmen, Senators, and the President. Clearly display your objection and ask for more information about this conflict to become better informed. Take a grassroots approach by going door- to-door, starting a petition and turn that in. Taking to the streets, with a "sixties like" approach is not going to work. Our Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, does not strike me as a person who will pull up stakes because a crowd of one hundred kids with green and blue hair have nothing to do after school.

But my feeling is that I don't like war and I am never for war, but sometimes it's not as cut and dry as that. I believe and hope that our military knows so much more than we do and that we are right and just in our decision to liberate Iraq of its tyrant leader. I saw the cover of the New York Post, displaying the huge mural of 'September 11th' painted inside an Iraqi military building. If we are not proactive, with respect to stopping possible threats to our country, than that mural is not just a picture of the past, but also a snapshot of things to come. If we turn our backs and put up a peace sign with our two fingers, than we leave our selves open. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Saddam has got weapons of mass destruction, we think, and who's to say that he's not going to sell them to mind warped terrorists who will smuggle them into the U.S. and set them off. I posed that thought and got people who would respond, "Naaaa!" But isn't it better to say, "Yes, this is possible, than, 'Naaaa,'" waking to the sound of sirens after another terrorist attack - Food for thought.

Post Script: What I want most of all is for the safe return of our brave soldiers. Please look into "Operation Shoebox" for more information on how you can help to donate small but necessary items to our troops.
